TERMS_OF_SERVICE
Last Updated:
1. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS
By accessing and using SecretVoid, you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our service.
2. SERVICE DESCRIPTION
SecretVoid is a zero-knowledge, dual-layer encrypted secret sharing service that allows you to:
- Share encrypted secrets with "Burn After Reading" (self-destruct on first view) or multiple-view mode
- Set expiration times (1, 3, or 7 days depending on tier) for secrets
- Optionally protect secrets with passphrases (handled entirely client-side)
- Receive optional email notifications when secrets are viewed
Important: Secrets are encrypted in your browser first (Layer 1), then encrypted again on our servers (Layer 2). We cannot access, decrypt, or recover your secrets. Once a secret is destroyed or expires, it is permanently deleted.
2.1 Service Tiers
Free Tier: Unlimited secrets with 1-day and 3-day expiry options, all core features included.
Pro Tier (£4.99/month): All Free features plus 7-day expiry option, and GitHub Action access for CI/CD workflows.
3. USER RESPONSIBILITIES
You agree to:
- Use SecretVoid only for lawful purposes
- Not share illegal, harmful, or malicious content
- Not attempt to bypass rate limits or security measures
- Not use the service to spam, harass, or threaten others
- Not attempt to reverse engineer or attack our infrastructure
- Keep your secret links and passphrases secure
- Understand that shared secrets are your responsibility
4. PROHIBITED CONTENT
You may not use SecretVoid to share:
- Illegal content or content that violates laws in your jurisdiction
- Content that infringes on intellectual property rights
- Malware, viruses, or harmful code
- Content that promotes violence, terrorism, or illegal activities
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
- Content used for phishing, fraud, or scams
While we cannot read your encrypted secrets due to our zero-knowledge architecture, we reserve the right to terminate service to users who violate these terms based on pattern analysis or reports.
5. ZERO-KNOWLEDGE LIMITATIONS
We cannot help you recover lost secrets. Because of our zero-knowledge architecture:
- We cannot decrypt secrets for you
- We cannot recover lost decryption keys or passphrases
- We cannot restore destroyed or expired secrets
- We cannot verify the contents of encrypted secrets
- Expired secrets are permanently irrecoverable — server-side encryption keys are automatically rotated and destroyed on a regular schedule, making recovery technically impossible even with full server access
You are solely responsible for keeping secret links and passphrases secure.
6. SUBSCRIPTIONS AND BILLING (PRO TIER)
Billing: Pro tier subscriptions are billed monthly at £4.99/month via Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis.
Cancellation: You may cancel your Pro subscription at any time from your dashboard. Cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing period. You will retain Pro features until that date. We do not offer pro-rated refunds for partial months.
Failed Payments: If a payment fails, we will attempt to charge your payment method again. If payment continues to fail, your account will be automatically downgraded to the Free tier. You remain responsible for any outstanding charges.
Price Changes: We reserve the right to change subscription prices with 30 days' notice. Existing subscribers will be grandfathered at their current price for one billing cycle after the price change.
7. SERVICE AVAILABILITY
SecretVoid is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee:
- Uninterrupted service availability
- Error-free operation
- Specific uptime percentages
- Data backup or recovery
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time without notice.
8. RATE LIMITS AND ABUSE PREVENTION
We implement rate limiting to prevent abuse. Limits are subject to change and may include:
- Rate limits on API endpoints for secret creation and retrieval
- Maximum secret size limits
- Passphrase verification attempt limits
- Additional limits may apply to prevent system abuse
Excessive use or attempts to bypass rate limits may result in temporary or permanent service restrictions.
9. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
SecretVoid and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by SecretVoid and are protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
10. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SecretVoid shall not be liable for:
- Any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
- Lost profits, data, or goodwill
- Service interruptions or data loss
- Unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions
- Content shared through the service
- Actions or omissions of other users
You use SecretVoid at your own risk. The service is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
11. INDEMNIFICATION
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SecretVoid from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the service or violation of these terms.
12. LAW ENFORCEMENT AND LEGAL COMPLIANCE
Due to our zero-knowledge architecture, we cannot provide plaintext content to law enforcement. We can only provide:
- Encrypted blobs (which we cannot decrypt)
- Metadata such as creation time, expiration time, and view status
- IP addresses and access logs (if still retained)
We will comply with valid legal requests to the extent possible given our technical architecture.
13. TERMINATION
We reserve the right to terminate or restrict access to the service for any user who violates these terms or engages in abusive behavior, without notice or liability.
14. GOVERNING LAW
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United Kingdom, without regard to conflict of law principles.
15. CHANGES TO TERMS
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
16. CONTACT
If you have questions about these Terms of Service, please contact us through our GitHub repository or support channels.
17. SEVERABILITY
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
